Riez is a commune in France located in the Paca region, in the Alpes de Haute Provence department, close to the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon, on the Valensole plateau. The holiday village with its Provencal charm has retained its old-fashioned style. Discover the facets of this atypical village.
The four monolithic granite columns surmounted by a sculpted architrave are among the historical heritages of the Provencal village. They are the remains of a temple built in the 1st century BC. The columns have been placed in a park suitable for a family picnic. On the ruins of the Roman baths were built a baptistery and a cathedral in the 5th century. The baptistery remains one of the rare palace buildings in the Provence-Alpes region. With a complex structure, it is square when seen from the outside, but forms an octagonal structure with 8 columns supporting the roof dome.
The rest of the building is made up of a large number of columns.
The remains of a Roman temple to Apollo is the first Corinthian monument. Also known as the Temple of Riez, it was covered after a major archaeological excavation.

À Riez, history and culture enthusiasts marvel at the sight of its architectural and natural curiosities. Tourists in the Var department are enchanted by the remains of the primitive cathedral. It is located inside the new church. The present church was built at the end of the 15th century. It was built in parallel with the chapel of Saint Maxime, which completes the religious heritage of the village.
Look at the Mazan hospital and its staircase dating from 1523 and adorned with gypsum decorations. Located in the old town centre, the building is in the Gothic style of architecture. Attached to the Mazan hospital is an archaeological museum which was built in the 1920s.
